Basic Yoga Positions for Beginners
Yoga is an exercise that promotes relaxation, movement and flexibility. At times we can see yoga practitioners do complicated positions, but of course, you need not imitate them right away. If you are a beginner in the world of yoga, then here are some basic positions which you would undergo:
1. Corpse position. The corpse position is a basic yoga exercise that helps one relax promotes better breathing and blood circulation. To do this, lie down on the mat with the head kept straight. The left toe should point to the left while the other toe pointing to the right. The palms meanwhile should be laid open. Once you get the position, close your eyes and follow rhythmic breathing.
2. Lotus position. This is a common pose seen in most yoga advertisements. The lotus position helps one in meditation, relaxation and better breathing. To do a lotus position, sit on the mat with your back straight and the legs spread forward. Then bend the right knee at the knee joint, hold the foot with both hands and lift upward until the foot is placed on the left thigh, the sole facing upward. Do the same with the left leg and foot. Place the hands on the knees with the index finger touching the thumb (the three other fingers kept straight), then finally, close your eyes and meditate.
3. Palm tree position. This position meanwhile is intended to reduce back pain and increase height. Stand straight and erect, with your weight distributed evenly on both feet. Then while inhaling, clasp your hands in front and raise them slowly upwards, with the palms faced up. Then slowly stand on your toes while stretching your whole body upward, retaining your breath. Finally, exhale while slowly bringing your hands and body down. End the position with the balls of your feet resting on the floor.
